MAPS LEGAL ADVOCACY & WORKPLACE ADVERSITY
MAPS is now proud to offer legal information support to help strengthen our members’ positions in their public service careers.
MAPS believes that a more inclusive Federal, State and local workforce strengthens the institutions they serve and ultimately, the American public. MAPS believes that Muslim professionals should exercise their right of association at the workplace, and be accorded all other rights and privileges available to them free from discrimination.
Please submit your request for assistance using the form below to allow MAPS’ Legal Advocacy Committee to best assess how we may offer support, and follow up on urgent requests by contacting MAPS’ Legal Advocacy Committee at legaladvocacy@mapsnational.org.
SUPPORT OUR WORK
To continue to develop this valuable resource in support of our underserved community, the Legal Advocacy Committee also seeks engagement from MAPS members, allies, and partners in the following ways:
1. Public Servant Survey/ Knowledge Sharing/ Data Collection
If you or someone you know are a public servant/ government employee that has faced workplace adversity or potential discrimination at your Federal, State or local government department or agency, either in the past or currently ongoing, we would love to hear from you/ them.
If you have taken legal action against these institutions we would also love to learn about the outcome and your experience and lessons learned that you would be willing to share for the benefit of your fellow members.
Please share your experience and insights via this MAPS Muslim Public Servant Experience Survey.
2. Volunteers to Support Intake
Volunteers to conduct complaint intakes from MAPS members and collect information on various government employers regarding their policies, including filing and arbitration procedures for employment discrimination claims.
[It is not required that MAPS LAC volunteers or staffers be lawyers. This is also a great opportunity for those considering a future career in law.]
MAPS LAC staffers will help compile this information into an accessible resource that will be made available to MAPS members as well as to future MAPS LAC staffers.
Interested candidates should express interest by contacting the Legal Advocacy Committee via legaladvocacy@mapsnational.org.
3. Organizational/ Legal Resource Partnership
MAPS welcomes partner organizations and allies active in the public service, legal advocacy, and employment law spaces to facilitate access to their pro bono services and referral resources by contacting the Legal Advocacy Committee via legaladvocacy@mapsnational.org.
