MAPS-Michigan Hosts State and Local Elected & Appointed Officials for Kick-off Event

MAPS thanks its inspiring members across Michigan and beyond for coming together for a special evening to honor and connect with fellow Muslim Americans serving our communities with dedication and integrity. Under the leadership of MAPS Michigan president Machhadie Assi (Micho), Vice President Omar Shajrah, Ola Albayati, Aiyah Kassem and Saja Badawi, the event brought together over 150 attendees — including leaders from the judiciary, legislature, governor’s office, law enforcement, city & county departments. We celebrated the spirit of public service, strengthened bonds, and uplifted one another in our shared commitment to leadership and civic engagement.

We were honored to host and present our MAPS-Michigan community to civic leaders and trailblazers, including Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, Hon. Aliyah Sabree (3rd Circuit Court Judge), Abraham Aiyash (Former Michigan State Representative & Majority Floor Leader), Abdul El-Sayed, MD, DPhil (Candidate for U.S. Senate Former Director of Wayne County Health Dept.), Zaineb A. Hussein (Chief of Staff, City of Dearborn), Issa Shahin (Police Chief, Dearborn Police Department), Kamal Alsawafy (Captain in the U.S. Army National Guard & Dearborn City Councilman), Alabas Farhat (Michigan State Representative (HD3)), Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree, Dearborn Heights police chief Ahmed Haidar, and many other distinguished leaders.

The event was also joined by MAPS National Chair Ahmad Maaty and Operations Director Katie Qutub. A special thank-you to our local business sponsors Qahwah House, Cedarland Bakery, and Bluemoon Hookah Lounge for their generous support. They were recognized with certificates of appreciation from the MAPS team.
